How to write your resume in no time using Resumatic
Estimated read time: 4 minutes
Resumatic lets you write a pretty solid resume that’s ATS friendly to boot
Welcome to 2024. As the first issue of JSG this year (last weekend was a no-go as I was getting over a bad flu), what better topic to review than how to write an effective, ATS friendly resume quickly.
Maybe you heard, but the outlook for 2024 so far isn’t as great, as big companies like Amazon and Meta are starting the year with a round of layoffs. Not as big as last year’s, but still. All the more reason to always have a polished resume ready to go in case your company decides to part ways.
Side Note: If you haven’t already done so, join our Reddit community for tips and advice around everything job search.
Layoffs aren't nearly as prevalent right now as they were last year
*Knock on wood*
But they're still being announced every other day it seems.
I'm no economist, but I think this stays a trend until the Fed figures out rate cuts.
In the mean time, work on your Plan B, folks.

Now let’s get this out of the way, there are a literal sh** ton of tools you can use to create a resume. There are the old fashioned ones like Microsoft Word or Google Docs (still the gold standard), and then there are hundreds of other ones across the web.
One of my favourite happens to be one called Resumatic and out of 47 issues of JSG, this is the third time I talk about it, because it contains some features you won’t find anywhere else, like:
ATS friendly templates (that are actually you know, ATS friendly)
An AI writer to help you write content
A scoring system that lets you know how your resume stacks up
Below, I’m gonna show you how to build a resume in Resumatic in just a short amount of time, so without further ado…
Step 1 - Sign Up
Head on over to the Resumatic website and sign up (it’s free to signup).
Step 2 - Create a new resume
On the main screen, click the green button at the top left labelled “Create New Resume”.

Step 3 - What kind of resume do you want to create?
Tell it what kind of resume you want, and whether or not you want to target it to a particular job. In this example, our resume is going to be for an enterprise sales manager in the tech industry and we’re targeting the same job title.

You can create multiple resumes - each targeted to a different role. In this case, we’re targeting Enterprise Sales Manager.
Step 4 - Fill in your information
You’ll notice that on the top of the page, there are tabs labeled with all of the different sections that could possibly go on a resume, such as:
Contact Information
Fairly straight forward. Fill in your info, including name, contact info etc. If you have a LinkedIn or portfolio site, this is where you’d include it.

Experience
This is where you’d enter all of the relevant jobs you’ve held. Remember to keep your experience relevant to the target job.

Bonus: whenever you’re stuck and can’t figure out what to write, you can use the AI Writer to help you.

Education
Don’t forget to include that degree you paid an arm and a leg for!

Finish Up
Once you’re done including all sections, you’ll be taken to the Finish Up screen below, which contains some important little tidbits.

On this screen, you’ll get a score grading your resume how well it stacks up against a number of metrics, such as how well it targets the job description, how many relevant keywords it contains etc.
You can also make tweaks to your resume right on this screen, in addition to changing the template, font, size, spacing and more. When you’re done, download as a PDF, docx, or save it to your Google Drive.
Pro tip: To get your resume to fit on exactly one page, just click the ‘Auto-Adjust’ button! This only works if your resume is a little less than or a little more than one page. It also works if you’re almost at two pages (say one and half pages) and want to fit the entire page length.
How much does Resumatic cost?
It’s free to try, but if you want to use some of the more advanced features, subscriptions start at $3/month.
Psst: Use promo code ‘Welcome20’ to get 20% off your subscription.
